Altenburg am Meer (Altenburg by the sea) Phase 1 - 2020
We hoist the sails: For two weeks, the marketplace in Altenburg was transformed into a colorful harbor. Together with the Erich-Kästner-Förderschule, a variety of stores, civil society actors and people from the city, we conjured up workshops, salsa evenings and a large European water map on the market square around the “Mary Jane”.
This was the first phase of our large scale sociocultural workshop festival “Altenburg am Meer”, postponed to 2021 due to Covid.
In a radio play workshop in cooperation with the Residenzschloss Altenburg, three radio plays were created with the young adults: "Voyage of discovery", "By train to the port", "Mary Jane - our dream ship", which were displayed in the castle museum until the end of October. Seebrücke Deutschland provided information on ways to make Altenburg a "safe harbor", and with Mission Lifeline we invited people to engage with sea rescue and the daily deaths on the Mediterranean in a film evening and discussion. The Open Harbor kick-started the project "Altenburg by the Sea" and invited urban dreams for urban spaces. After the low tide comes the high tide: see you again in May 2021!
